Plastics. The History of Rotational Molding Processes: From the First Dosing Machines to the Technological Revolution
Interview with Aurelio Colombo, technical director at Eurotec Impianti srl. In 1989, during an international meeting in Vienna, he unveiled one of the earliest polyethylene powder dosing machines for rotational molding machines.
What innovative features characterized the prototype?
“Our first prototype involved the collecting of material on a machine which loaded storing silos. Said material was subsequently vacuum transported with a vacuum pump into a gravimetric or volumetric dosing system placed upon molds. This dosing system was composed of vacuum feeders, hoppers and dosing screw systems assembled on load cells, thus allowing the operator to directly load into the mold, once a default weight was set. These systems were multi-station, in order to ensure multiple colors available for dosing.”.
